SOLUTION DELIVERED

High-risk turbine plant replacement

We were tasked with removing a 250kg redundant radiator unit from the top of a wind turbine and replacing it with a new unit. At 100 metres high, the project required highly experienced rope access technicians with Global Wind Organisation (GWO) certification and a strong background in complex rigging.

Preparation for this task was critical — the planning phase involved extensive risk assessment, method development, and equipment selection to ensure the work could be carried out safely and efficiently. Our crew designed a rope rigging system using the turbine’s existing structure and anchor points to control the safe lowering of the old unit and the lifting of the replacement.

Challenges included extreme height, the remote regional location, and the precision required to manoeuvre heavy equipment in a confined work zone at elevation. The combination of skilled technicians, carefully engineered rigging systems, and rigorous safety procedures ensured the successful completion of the works without incident.
