During Boral Cement Works’ January shutdown, our team was tasked with performing hazard reduction, structural inspections, and steel repairs within a strict two-week window. We mobilised 30 rope access and confined space-certified technicians, operating across day and night shifts to meet deadlines.
Hazard reduction works included cleaning large concrete bins that had accumulated hardened concrete over time, reducing capacity. Using blasting techniques, we removed all build-up, restoring the bins to their original volume.
Following cleaning, our NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) specialists assessed the thickness of steel components, similar to measuring tyre tread depth to ensure they remain fit for purpose. Any areas found to be below safe thickness were repaired by welding steel plates to reinforce the structure. These works ensured the plant could safely resume operation at full capacity.
